Color Life – an interactive automaton with personality! – made its successful debut at FIGMENT June 8-9 on Governor’s Island. Despite a rain-soaked installation day on Friday, we were up and running come Saturday morning. Color Life took its place in Nolan Park, under a beautiful Dogwood tree that provided much-welcome shade as the day grew warmer.

As described in our earlier post, Color Life is a new 21st century, 3D, full-color take on Conway’s Game of Life, operating 57 independent nodes built with logic that enables them to speak to each other without benefit of central control. LED “edges” change color based on their own state and the states of their neighbors.

We at Hack Manhattan love love love group projects, and Color Life is our latest collaborative effort – witness 2012’s Brain Bats. What’s next for HM? Come visit us and find out!
